The SkillsUSA Championships CMT Contest was created to demonstrate the readiness of the brightest student-technicians for jobs in the IT industry. This contest is firmly rooted to the A+ Certification program. If you want to see our schools prepare their computer technicians for jobs via A+, then supporting the CMT contest is in your interest. You can provide support locally, to a local SkillsUSA chapter, or nationally through this contest. Why Should My Organization Participate? The easy answer is: because you'll be helping students become better prepared for their chosen careers. As a business, you might need to answer some ROI questions. Consider this: your support presents a unique marketing strategy that influences the best future employees at the beginning of their career. If you have great stuff, who better to spread your word than the new great technicians? If you have great stuff, do you want these great technicians working for your competitors? If your interest is piqued, fire off a message to the contest chair who will get an information packet sent to you. By now you should be asking yourself how you can be a part of the CMT contest. The three main forms of participation in a Skills-USA competition are: Prizes Winning the contest and wearing a medal is a momentous achievement in itself, but hauling home some cool new tools and toys helps prolong the excitement and further prepares the winners for their careers. If you have something that relates to the contest and meets the technical standards, you can be a prize supplier. You get recognition in the contest area and Conference Program, and the donation is fully tax-deductible. Past prizes: Laptops, Handspring Visors, Technical Reference Libraries, Software, test vouchers, miscellaneous PC accessories, CBT packages, advanced troubleshooting tools, and tons more. Person-Power The CMT contest has been successful so far thanks to the hard work of many dedicated people. Seems that we never have enough minds and bodies working on the projects. If you are a part of the IT industry you can help us design the contest or serve as a judge on contest day. If you are an educator you can lend your skills in several ways as well, including assistance at the national contest. If you participate in person at the contest, you will be able to make job offers to those contestants whom you might employ. You identify schools with strong programs and consistently great technician/graduates. You meet with the instructors from these great schools, and develop ways to help them, their students, and your future employment needs. In addition, you can network with the local and state administrators who have broader influence. Funding The CMT contest is young in Skills USA-VICA-years, and we don't own much in terms of contest facilities. Funding helps us acquire the goods needed to present a professional contest. Funding is also needed to offset the costs of sending students to the A+ Certification exam. If you represent the IT industry, have strong technical skills, you can serve as a judge at the National Contest. Judges represent the industry and have direct contact with the contestants. If you are looking for potential employees, this is your chance to see the nation's best technicians in action. Think of it as a practical, hands-on A+ exam. Later, you can contact those contestants and offer them jobs! |
